Spain vs Netherlands FIFA World Cup Final - After a devastating win over Germany, Spain is already switching attention to the final.

“Our players carried out their job in a magnificent way, but let’s think about the game in front of us. We’re in good shape physically – let’s try to win.” said coach Vicente Del Bosque.

“We want more,” said midfielder Xabi Alonso, “we’ve come a long way and now we’re in the final. We want to celebrate something really big.

On the other hand, Netherlands are also on their first World Cup final, so this is going to be a very tough game.

“The Netherlands have a lot of good players – Arjen Robben, Robin van Persie, Wesley Sneijder – and we have to try to stop them,” said Gerard Piqué, Puyol’s central defensive partner.

“Let’s enjoy the final,” said playmaker Xavi.

Pacquiao vs Mayweather Bout?

MANILA, Philippines – A historic prize fight between current pound-for-pound champ Manny Pacquiao and undefeated boxing sensation Floyd Mayweather Jr. is still a possibility, according to Top Rank, Inc. head honcho Bob Arum.

Arum arrived in Manila Thursday morning then proceeded to General Santos City to support his ward’s political campaign.

The Filipino boxing sensation is seeking to clinch the Sarangani Province congressional seat on May 10.

Arum said he is certain that Pacquiao will be victorious in his second political bid.

“I’m excited to be able to introduce him in the next fight as Congressman Manny Pacquiao,” he said.

After the elections, Arum said he hopes to negotiate for the much-clamored showdown between Pacquiao and Mayweather.

“Yes I’m going to try to make it happen, I think it can… Sometime towards the end of the year,” the Top Rank head remarked.

Pacquiao and Mayweather were slated to fight on March 13 but they disagreed on the Olympic-style drug testing protocol.

According to Arum, he believes the disagreement can be ironed out so that the fight will push through. “I’m not going to give details but I think we can work it out,” he added.

He added that Mayweather, who defeated Shane Mosley via unanimous decision on May 1, cannot keep running away from the Pacquiao bout. “He’s got nowhere else to go,” he stated.

Aside from Arum, several boxing writers from the US also arrived in the country to get more news about the 7-division world champ.

“The thing is this: He may be the champ, but we all know belts don’t do nothing but collect dust,” Mayweather said, smiling. “I’m in the check-cashing business, baby.”

Both should be able to cash hefty checks after this fight, arguably the biggest in the sport not involving Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather and Mosley have been circling each other for years, and the possibility they would finally meet really gained traction when Mosley crashed a post-fight interview after Mayweather defeated Juan Manuel Marquez last September.

Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions brazenly predicted the fight will do 3 million pay-per-views, which would shatter the record set by Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya in 2007.

“We have the two best American fighters of our generation,” Schaefer said. “Mayweather has become a household name, let’s face it. Love him or hate him, he’s a household name. And with Shane Mosley, you have the perfect dance partner.”

The fight came together after weeks of negotiations between Mayweather and Pacquiao failed to produce an agreement. The Filipino fighter refused Olympic-style drug testing — Mayweather’s camp has accused Pacquiao of using performance-enhancing drugs — and he will instead fight Joshua Clottey on March 13 at Cowboys Stadium.
